ABOUT THE PROJECT

“Someone has to keep watch over the ruins; that is why all children grow up, save one. A person who loses their shadow becomes the shadow itself.”

With the mind of a hundred-year-old sage and the body of a five-year-old child, the genius detective Alper Kamu arrives on the theatre stage in Cehennem Çiçeği. Through the death of his uncle and the secrets behind it on one side, and the tragic story of a family newly moved into his neighbourhood on the other, he follows the trail of broken lives, buried secrets and loves gone to ash.

Staged under the direction of Simge Günsan, the production combines live cinema, toy theatre and collective production techniques. Giant miniatures built on stage, street and house scales, and simultaneous video feeds draw the audience straight into the centre of the story.

The direct relationship that space, movement and miniature models form with the camera creates a cinematographic depth on the theatre stage. This distinctive stage language and spatial design won Best Stage Design of the Year at the Afife Theatre Awards.
