ABOUT THE PROJECT
“Mercanların Sesi” is a sound and light installation that sets out to raise awareness of the coral reefs of Bozcaada. Drawing attention to corals of the species Cladocora caespitosa, threatened by climate change and marine pollution, the experience was realised by taking footage and recordings of coral captured on dives made for the project and having artists work them into a sound design.
Within the exhibition, kinetic sculpture, visual and sound installations and electroacoustic music performances meet the audience. Surfaces that refract the light and the acoustics of the underwater world take the visitor on a journey into the depths off Bozcaada.
The relationship drawn between the stone texture of the Bozcaada Ataol Wine Cellar and the fragility of the underwater world invites the visitor into both an ecological awareness and a sensory experience. With sound, light and movement folded into one another, the installation sets out to give visibility to the silent presence of coral reefs.
